I recently faced a dilemma when my family decided to replace our old car with a new one. We initially considered a luxury petrol vehicle, but after some thought and discussions, we decided to go for an electric vehicle (EV) instead. In this blog post, I'll share how and why I feel happy in making this eco-friendly choice.
When we decided to get rid of one of our old cars, my dad asked me for my choice of vehicle. Excitedly, I started looking around the luxury car space. My brother, friends, and I had several discussions about which car to buy, and we eventually shortlisted an Audi A6. It seemed like the perfect choice, offering comfort and style.
One Sunday morning, while on a walk with my neighborhood uncle, he shared his satisfying experience of owning an EV. He mentioned that while it might not be as luxurious as other non-EVs, the low maintenance and fuel-free nature of the vehicle more than compensated for it. This conversation planted a seed in my mind.
The next day, when our driver picked me up from school, he noticed a car with a green number plate and asked me what it meant. I explained that it signified an EV, and he casually suggested, "Why don't we get an EV then? It looks good." This comment made me seriously consider the idea. However, the thought of giving up a luxury vehicle continued to play at the back of my mind. Very soon, I realized that this decision making is not going to be an easy process.
Over the next 2-3 days, I weighed the pros and cons of choosing an EV over a luxury petrol vehicle. I researched the environmental benefits, cost savings, and convenience of owning an EV.
Contrary to popular belief, EVs are just as convenient as fuel vehicles. With the increasing availability of charging stations, we can easily charge our EVs anytime. Additionally, EVs have a longer lifespan than fuel vehicles, which means we won't have to replace them as often. As the world moves towards a more sustainable future, EVs are becoming increasingly popular. By switching to an EV now, we can future-proof ourselves and avoid the need to switch later when fuel vehicles become obsolete. Furthermore, government incentives for EV purchases enhance their appeal.
When I approached my parents with these findings, they were extremely supportive of my thought process, and agreed that an EV was the right choice for us. This was the final booster we needed to make a switch.
Today, our family is a proud owner of an MG EV, and we couldn’t be happier with our decision.
There are numerous ways you can help the environment through transportation practices. If your family is planning to buy a new car, urge them to evaluate an electric option. Additionally, we can all minimize the use of traditional fuel vehicles by using alternative means of transport as well as carpooling wherever feasible. Every small step counts, and I hope we continue to thrive towards creating a sustainable, cleaner and greener future.
