Living in India, I have witnessed first hand the profound effects of climate change. As a student, these impacts have touched many aspects of my life.

Unpredictable Weather Patterns Due to Climate Change in India
Seasons no longer follow predictable patterns. Summers are getting hotter, monsoons are erratic, and winters are milder. This unpredictability disrupts school schedules and extracurricular activities. Heat waves cause power outages, affecting online classes, while unexpected rains can wash out important events like concerts and cricket matches.
Health Issues Caused by Climate Change in India
Climate change has also increased health issues in recent years. Recently, a friend of mine fainted after he competed in the 100m sprint event. The onsite medics stated that it was a heat stroke caused by the sudden surge in temperatures. Furthermore, the spread of diseases like dengue and malaria during the monsoons led to many of my peers being unwell and subsequently missing the term-end exams.
Impact of Climate Change in India on Rural Students
In India, many students, especially in rural areas, come from farming families. Climate change has severely impacted agriculture, causing financial stress that affects education.
Positive Educational Initiatives Amidst Climate Change in India
On a positive note, environmental education is growing. Most schools incorporate climate change topics into the curriculum, encouraging participation in tree planting drives, recycling programs, and awareness campaigns. These activities educate us on conservation and empower us to act. In my school, we are taught to minimize food wastage, conserve power, follow the reduce-reuse-recycle mantra and to practice afforestation.
Adapting to Climate Change in India as Students
The impact of climate change in India reminds us of the need for immediate action. As students, we are learning to adapt, becoming more resilient, and advocating for sustainable practices. Our generation plays a crucial role in combating climate change.
That is why, we at Klim8 urge you to ensure the well-being of yourself and that of the precious environment around you!
